Medical Collector

Location: Rancho Mirage, CA 92270

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Pay: $23 - $25/hr DOE

The Medical Collector is responsible for managing collections by following up on outstanding insurance claims and patient balances. This position ensures timely reimbursement, resolves denials, and maintains compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations. The Medical Collector plays a key role in supporting the financial health of the practice by reducing aged receivables and improving cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and manage aging reports to identify overdue accounts.
  • Contact insurance companies to resolve unpaid or denied claims.
  • Verify claim status and appeal denials or underpayments as necessary.
  • Follow up with patients regarding outstanding balances professionally and compassionately.
  • Document all collection activities within the practice management system.
  • Collaborate with billing and coding teams to resolve claim discrepancies.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable payer and regulatory standards.
  • Meet or exceed established collection targets and performance metrics.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the Billing Manager or Revenue Cycle Supervisor.
